Our Story

Distilled in Scotland. Forged on the Clyde.

Shipyard Gin is a premium small batch gin, born out of a deep respect for the people and industry that once made Scotland's west coast the beating heart of global shipbuilding.

Shipyard Gin bottles

Our founder, Andy Samuel, grew up in Gourock, Inverclyde in the 80s and 90s, watching the cranes come down and the yards fall silent. His grandfather worked at Scott's Shipbuilding & Engineering in Greenock, one of the many men who grafted day in, day out, building ships that would sail the world. As the industry collapsed, so too did a sense of pride and purpose in the area. What was once a thriving, skilled community was left behind and to this day, the area is still recovering.

Shipyard Gin is Andy's way of honouring that legacy. It's a tribute to the generations who built with their hands, shoulders and steel nerves and to the towns and cities that still carry their stories. This isn't just a gin. It's a thank you. It's a reminder. And it's a celebration of where we've come from.

Modern Distilling

Our production method is a nod to the shipyards themselves, where strength, precision and pride in the build mattered. Shipyard Gin is distilled in small batches using a stainless steel still fitted with a copper bubble plate. This setup guarantees 100% copper contact during distillation, giving all the benefits of traditional copper stills with a clean, modern edge.

Award-Winning Excellence

Our commitment to quality has been recognised at the prestigious London Spirits Competition, where Shipyard Gin Original was awarded Gold for its exceptional quality, value and branding.

We have also picked up medals at the Global Gin Masters and were finalists in the Scottish Gin Awards for London Dry of the year and Best Newcomer.

Our Vision

At Shipyard Gin, our vision goes beyond the bottle. We're building a brand rooted in place, purpose and people. One that brings pride back to Inverclyde and helps fuel its future. We want Shipyard Gin to become a beacon for Scottish craft, drawing visitors from near and far to discover the story of the Clyde, visit our planned distillery on the banks of the river, and explore the rich history that shaped this coast. Through tourism, we aim to shine a light on a region too often overlooked. But our ambition doesn't stop at storytelling. We're committed to creating real jobs, supporting local makers, and investing in the kind of businesses that bring life back to high streets and harbour fronts. From glassmakers to graphic designers, we believe in working with people who share our values and our roots. Our long-term goal is to build a thriving, self-sustaining community, where heritage is celebrated, opportunities are local and Shipyard Gin plays a part in building what's next.
